You will gain specialist knowledge and understanding in key concepts of business and accounting, alongside the ability to apply this knowledge to real world business situations. Experienced tutors will expose you to the dynamic world of business and accounting through case studies, group work and business projects.

The course has been designed to provide specialist knowledge of business and accounting. This course is made up of 16 units that reflect the knowledge and skills that employers are seeking from graduates, such as business decision making, management accounting and marketing principles.

How you are assessed

The majority of BTEC Higher National units are assessed internally. Students are graded for each individual unit with a Pass, Merit or Distinction. They may be assessed in a number of different ways, such as:

  • presentations, written reports, accounts, surveys
  • log books, production diaries
  • role play
  • observations of practical tasks or performance
  • articles for journals, press releases
  • production of visual or audio materials, artefacts, products and specimens
  • peer and self-assessment.

For learners who have recently been in education, the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification
  • GCE level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject
  • Other related level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate received from an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience
  • English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (B2), with a minimum of 5.0 awarded in each band
  • Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector
  • In exceptional circumstances managers with considerable experience but no formal qualifications may be considered subject to interview and being able to demonstrate their ability to cope with the demands of the programme

  • At least 18 years of age
  • 4 GCSEs (including English and Maths) or 120 UCAS points or equivalent
